Exciting News From Kellie McHugh

Dear Virginian’s For Life Friends,

I am writing to thank you for standing with me in this last decade of work at Virginians for Life. Your support and generosity has been overwhelming. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for your faithfulness to the cause of civil rights for the unborn. These last years have been a labor of love and devotion for all of us, and I am deeply indebted to you for the way you have sacrificed to make my work possible. I am also indebted to my incredible team, who has born the burden of sending our mail as I pursued a music career in and out of State, and even the continent.

Now that it has been brought to my attention that the group wishes to expand our focus a bit, I have concluded I must narrow my focus to other callings from here. While it has been such an amazing privilege to serve you, there is truly someone far better prepared than I, to keep you informed on issues I know you care about deeply.

I must ask you to welcome your wonderful new Executive Director, Rachel Sargent.

She will be writing to you next.

You might ask why a musician endorsed a political action group for 10 years, and the only answer that seems suitable are the words of Martin Niemoller:

“First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out –
because I was not a Socialist.
Then they came for the Trade Unionist, and I did not speak out –
because I was not a Trade Unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out –
because I was not a Jew.
And then they came for me –
and there was no one left to speak for me.”

The truth is, I am just a singer, just the girl next door, who chose to back a group of Virginians who wished to be informed how their lawmakers voted on a heartbreaking issue. May my decision be just one of thousands, and millions of similar ones. In the hopes that the babies you speak out for will one day speak out for you, and in the hopes that one day we’ll see new and brighter victory, I must say farewell for now and wish Rachel Sargent a wonderful future as your new director.

I remain yours always,

Kellie McHugh
